OH MY HUTCH!

My biggest project to date and woo hoo, did it take me a while to complete?!!!
Working 9 to 5, I am a weekend kinda project gal!
I often finish projects during the week and have to wait till the weekend to take my shots...and I took several pics of this baby before I was close to happy with the outcome!

I painted the entire hutch with Plascon's French Chartreuse in their cashmere finish. Then I used milk paint in shaker blue and green from Here and did a layered paint effect on the areas I wanted to highlight!
I stained the top and bottom in an imbuia stain and applied my antique liquid all over, including the distressed areas!

You can see that I'm no minimalist...this hutch is crammed with pieces I love and treasure!

My collection of vintage scales, metal gas station number, vintage spools and my painted spindles!

My mis-matched china, and creamy pieces, some ironstone.
Old books under a glass dome!

Vintage dish rack and pretty tea towels!

I love these vintage inhalers. Pretty used for single blooms!

I love collecting items from this  renowned food store!

Vintage enamel jugs!

Vintage wire basket (hard to find over here) filled with my treasured French linen and grainsacks!

Antique storage box painted with CeCe Caldwell's Alaskan Tundra Green. I am super impressed with this paint and a little goes a long way! Thanks to Shelly from  A little bit o' shizzle

I would like to repurpose this sign and use it as a cup rack. It needs to be mounted on a base....any ideas?!!!

Do I make the cut? All you brilliant furniture painters out there....give me some comments!

  2. Oh sweetie, I am not a brilliant furniture painter but you made the cut indeed! Love the variations of color. I so can't decide what to do with my hoosier when I bring it home. It is wood with a white enamel top. At first I thought I would paint it. But at times I think I should leave it alone. UGH! What's a girl to do? I love your collection of scales. I have 4 that I adore too. I recently bought a wooden gas station number 0 to hang in my craft room. I thought it could represent an O for Olson. The white is quite stained around the edges. I thought it would clean up, but haven't found anything that touches it yet. Would you repaint the edges or just leave it? I would love if you linked this to Share Your Cup next week.
    hugs,
    Jann

    1. Hi Jann, If you love the industrial look consider giving your letter 'O' a fauz zink look. I found these tutorial:

  3. Love lovin your hutch Sumaya Love the colors you painted and the finish you made. I'm sure envious of your scales and all your goodies on your hutch. It's hard to find the vintage wire baskets where I live in US, Western CO also. If there are any of many vintage items people with alot more money than I have seem to buy them. Also we live away from town a few miles so don't go in that often.
Really enjoy your blog. I think it's so incredible that people from other ends of the world can talk to each other and share ideas, see what each has done. Hope life is good for you and your family.
    Happy Week

Yip, those people with a lot of money to spend hey! I often find vintage items on our local online auction site and know how high I can go , but I am almost always outbid. Some people have a lot more spending power!:)

Blessings from across the big pond...have a great week!:)

  7. Visiting from Honeysuckle Bus Stop. I cannot believe it's the same piece. I kept scrolling up and down and up and down again to check out that it was, indeed, the same piece. LOL! What a wonderful transformation. I just love the colors you chose -- I'm not seeing anything like what you did on U.S. blogs, that's for sure. Wow! Makes me want to redo my house with pieces in those gorgeous colors. Sigh...

  9. I just found your blog and it is lovely. I think you made that hutch turn from trash to treasure absolutely! The colors are beautiful and go so well together and I love how "soft" the palette is, there's a nice calming effect it emits. I look forward to seeing more and learning about life in South Africa. I myself live outside of a small town called Coolidge in Arizona, very rural. However I am originally from New York City, a very different living style for sure. I have been in Arizona for 8 years now and although I deplore the summer my daughters and I enjoy the rest of the year here. I do hope to travel with my girls one day, so for now I just have to look through other people's eyes, as they say. Do keep up what you are doing, I don't have a blog yet, I've tried starting but it just hasn't happened... hopefully I'll actually get it started one day soon ;) Enjoy your day... Florence
